Life After Magellan

After spending three weeks by myself in Europe, I was ecstatic to come home. But I look back on my trip and I notice how much I have changed and learned. Of course I learned all about European chocolate but the life lessons I learned are just as important. I see the world differently and I have so much more respect for other cultures. The amount of independence I gained is incredible and very rewarding. I will soon begin my sophomore year at W&J. I hope to continue to grow as a student and individual from these life lessons I have learned. I already have been doing research for my next Magellan Project and I am excited for that next adventure. Thank you Magellan Project for making 2017 the best summer ever.

Today, I woke up and made breakfast. I then headed straight to the train station to go Läderach chocolate factory. I was very nervous about taking the right train and getting off at the right stops, however, I had no problems. Thanks to my Eurail Pass, I was able to get from Zurich to Bilten, Switzerland without having the stress of purchasing tickets. The train was quite comfortable but I was paying more attention to the views. The commute lasted about an hour, where the track ran right along Zurich Lake. Here is a video of the view of the Lake from the train and a picture of my first Eurail Global Pass trip that was stamped by the conductor. Day 1

Currently I am sitting in the airport writing my first travel blog post. My flight leaves at 10:30 pm for Frankfurt and then I have a connecting flight to Zurich. Nerves are rapidly running through my body but I am confident that I will get through this trip. Extensive preparation was needed for this trip. Along with a detailed budget and itinerary, I put much thought into packing. As I will be traveling to six different cities during my trip, dragging around a suitcase seemed cumbersome and aggravating. I decided to check a larger backpack as my "suitcase" and use a smaller backpack as a carry on. Now this would drastically restrict the amount of space that I would have to pack. However, I watched videos on how to pack, learning to roll my clothes so that they would not take up much space. Day 8

Today I went to Du Rhone Chocolatier in Geneva, Switzerland. This visit was amazing and added so much depth to my project. Street View of the Store Upon arrival, I was greeted with fresh lemon water and a piece of chocolate as I waited for Mr. Federico Marangoni, the owner and CEO of Du Rhone Chocolatier, to arrive. Once he arrived we sat at a table in the store and talked for about an hour. Du Rhone began in 1875 and is the third oldest chocolate shop in Geneva. Geneva contains 27 chocolate shops, Du Rhone being at the highest end of Swiss chocolate. There is only one store in Switzerland, but the company has expanded abroad and has shops in cities such as London, New York, Berlin, Hamburg, Taipei, Shanghai, and Riyadh. Mr. Marangoni bought this company about two years ago and strives to improve and expand everyday.
